Face Shape

Face shape can determine a lot about what will or won’t work for an individual. From hairstyle to the cut of a shirt, your face shape can guide you in the right direction. The most concise “how to determine face shape” I found came from http://www.visual-makeover.com/face.htm. So here’s the gist of it:

  • Oval Face – Length equal to one and a half times width.
  • Round Face – Your face is as wide as it is long. This may vary a little but generally the measurement is close.
  • Oblong – Longer than it is wide.
  • Square – your face is about as wide as it is long.
  • Heart – Narrow at jaw line, wide at cheekbones/and or forehead.
  • Diamond – Widest at cheekbones, narrow forehead and jaw line of approximately equal widths.

The chart below seemed a good guide for determining your face-shape as well.

If this all seems a little daunting, Leta will do it for you when you meet with her for a consultation. Not only will she relay your face shape, but she will also give you individualized information on how to put your look together to accentuate the most attractive features of your face – including types of clothing that would best suite you.

Eating Your Way to Better Skin

We all know the old saying “you are what you eat.” So the same goes for wanting healthy skin. Put healthy foods in and, along with a dialed skin care regime, you will have healthy looking, fantastic skin. The article “Foods For Healthy Skin” was very thorough, yet concise on what the best choices are to achieve healthy skin through what you eat.

For your convenience I have broken out the gist of what types foods are suggested. I’m including some tips and my favorites too.

Low-fat dairy products

a low fat spreadable swiss cheese – The Laughing Cow has great cheese that comes in many different flavors.

low fat yogurt – vanilla Wallabey Yogurt is so creamy and delicious it almost feels like a treat

Milk – we are often told skim, but really the caloric difference for 1% is not so much and it tastes a lot less like milk flavored water. I like to add some chocolate flavored, 100% whey protein to an 8oz. glass in the morning.

Blackberries, blueberries, strawberries and plums

When out of season, go for the frozen variety. Since they are frozen at the peak of  freshness frozen berries are optimal in nutrients.

Salmon, walnuts, canola oil, flax seed

Flax seeds can be added to anything from spaghetti sauce to oatmeal.

If you don’t like the taste of walnuts, grind some up and add them to almost anything without really tasting them.

Healthy oils (in moderation)

“cold pressed, expeller processed, or extra virgin are the ones to look for.”

Whole wheat breads, muffins and cereals; turkey, tuna and brazil nuts

Granny’s Delight 100% whole wheat – found at Harmon’s, this bread packs in 6g fiber, 3g protein and only 80 calories per slice. It is made in Kaysville, UT as well – so for the Utahns reading this – it is local! When purchasing whole        wheat bread make sure that that is the first ingredient and look for  5+ grams of fiber per slice.

Green Tea

Any suggestions on brands would be appreciated – I have only tried Stash.

Water

At least half of your body weight in ounces. So if you weigh 130 lbs, you should drink 65oz. The article points out the exact amount you should drink varies, I got this amount from a chiropractor who specializes in wellness.

Here are some examples of how to combine more than two of the above categories:

  • Yogurt with blueberries and a tablespoon of walnuts, and maybe even a tablespoon of flax seeds.
  • Whole wheat bread with spreadable low-fat swiss cheese and tuna
  • Salmon cooked in extra-virgin olive oil
  • Sliced strawberries and blackberries with half a whole wheat muffin

So those are just a few examples, the combinations can be as creative as you are.

Strike Gold

Isn’t it great when something pops into your head and you feel like you have struck gold? A quick review of a couple of the previous posts did that for me, the woman trying to be a voice for Glamour Connection. As Leta has written the two posts I speak of, this all makes sense. Simplify – the reoccurring theme that I’m speaking of – we hear it a lot these days but how often is it really absorbed In contrast, as I research topics I am finding more and more high fashion or trendy pieces out there and have thought “We (Glamour Connection) are just not like this. We have an uncomplicated eye for beauty.” And then, ah-ha. We are different. At Glamour Connection we are really interested in timeless, classic beauty. Yes, we want to stay current with what is trendy out there, but it will always be put back together classically. Simplify, simplicity, simple. Beauty can be simple and Glamour Connection is about making it such. We want every woman to feel beautiful and just by enhancing what you already have we are keeping it simple.

When Leta does each makeover she isn’t trying to make the woman feel like she needs a whole new look to be beautiful. That just wouldn’t be practical. Same idea for a wardrobe consultation – you will not need to go buy a completely new wardrobe to freshen up or even update your look. She finds the best pieces that are already in your closet and customizes what is best for your particular body type. What works for your body type will not work for every body type. In addition, the things that are already in your closet speak volumes about what style you are seeking. Women know what is comfortable for them and Leta just gives information for a beauty routine and style that is practical and shows the individual woman how to make the most of what she already has.

Simple Steps

By Leta Greene

Washing your face without proper cleansing is like mopping your floor without rinsing the mop.  You are just pushing the dirt around; it may look better, but is it really clean?  No routine will work if you don’t cleanse properly. I hesitate to say, “routine” as it has an image of 9 products in front of you. You will find that our system is very different, cleanse, moisturize and repeat–simple. Cleansing, to produce fabulous skin, removes the flaky skin, the oils and bacteria from touching your face after who knows what you touched and then placed on your chin. Then there’s whatever floated through the air, are you grossed out yet? As you get hot from sweat, hormones or getting kids bathed, your pours open up. As you cool down they shut, like little doors, closing in whatever they have been exposed to. When you have a makeover with me, I explain proper cleansing so that whatever is put on after is not “cover up” but rather protection for your skin.  No makeup will look fabulous over a dirty palette.

And the Winner Is . . .

Taryn!!!

(Winner selected randomly.)

We asked how many times you apply gloss or similar product to your lips. Taryn said “I apply 2-3 times per day!”

Thanks to everyone who participated in January’s Giveaway. Check back soon for February’s giveaway. Here are some photos for thought.

Why Women Wear Lipstick

As our month long blogging on lipstick comes to a close (no this won’t be the last time you hear us talk about lipstick,) the question “why do women wear lipstick?” is forefront. Makeup, specifically lipstick, is seen by some as uneccessary and put on simply to attract and hold the interest of men. While this is not true, well not entirely true, there must be a reason behind the lipstick and other makeup we put on. In fact, there is. We like it. It makes us feel pretty and fun, mysterious and sexy. Maybe the truth really is that as girls we loved messing around our mothers makeup drawers and begged her to put even just a small dab of her lipstick on us for the day or at least until we had to leave the house. Many of us have this experience with our daughters. From very young ages – even as early as 15 months – children are fascinated by our makeup. Wearing lipstick as adults channels us back to those simpler days when all that mattered was having the stuff on our lips no matter how well it was applied, if it matched perfectly with what we were wearing or what would the other girls would think of it.

We continually look for new products, colors and application techniques to improve our look. As unique as each of us are, lipstick can be just as unique for us. It lets us say what we want about ourselves – be it confidence, sexiness, security, or even that maybe that’s all we had time to do and it makes us feel more put-together. For all you women reading this who don’t wear lipstick, we lipstick wearers might understand your perspective as well-you’re just not into it. To which we say – good, more for us. Not really. Honestly, to each his own. Women should just do what makes them feel beautiful and not follow along because that’s what society tells us we should do.

Finally, I’d like to answer the question with a question. Why not wear lipstick?

Simply Put

By Leta Greene

Why is our lipstick the best? Often we are compared to other long lasting lip products. So, how are we different? It isn’t just ‘lip service’ that we actually last—our formula is markedly different. Even our application techniques are different than other long lasting lipsticks, but all these differences are good!

We have been putting wax on our lips since Egyptian times, but we’ve learned a few things about skincare since then. Customers who try SeneGence rave to me as though I didn’t know how wonderfully different it is. I know — believe me, I know! I have been using SeneGence for nine years this February. Honestly, I love my lips! No smudging, smearing, or kissing off.

In addition to how long SeneGence lipstick lasts. and looks fresh, we have no yucky ingredients, like lead.  A few years ago, there were media statements that long lasting lipsticks had lead in them. SeneGence is completely lead free. Our ingredients list is available without purchase. If you want one, let me know so you can Google the ingredients.

I contacted several other companies selling long lasting lipstick, asking them if they had lead in their product. The response? They stated that they were FDA approved. So was that a yes or a no? When I asked for an ingredient list, they told me a list was available with the product. I would have to buy their lipstick to gain access to what was in it. That is convenient, since I can’t return it once the box is opened.

SeneGence means “aging intelligently” (I know it is a funny name,) but no allergens, irritants or carcogens are put in our products —basically nothing you couldn’t safely put on your baby’s skin. Actually, I wouldn’t recommend putting lipstick on your baby, just not my preference. I prefer to just apply kisses– whatever you want to do–totally your call…

Ease of use

Lip color can do a lot for women and, if we let it, it can help ease transitions from activities throughout the day. For instance, say you work full time for a corporation that is pretty conservative. You would wear one LipSense lip look to work that says “I am conservative, with a kick,” if that’s who you are. Additionally, throughout your busy work day, trips to the bathroom to touch up your lipstick are completely unnecessary. All you need to refresh your look is a swipe of gloss, that you conveniently keep in the top drawer of your desk. So swift is the application that going from meeting to meeting, you stop by your desk for a mere 20 seconds and leave the other women in your next meeting wondering how you found the time to reapply. Just think of all the extra time you will have.

At the end of your work day you head off to the gym. Working out without having to remove your lipstick for fear of it ending up all over everything keeps your confidence up, enabling you to work out with the gusto of your spin teacher. Wearing LipSense you wouldn’t need to worry about reapplying before rushing off to that dinner date with your man, or potential man. But say you want to look a little more flashy for this particular evening. By adding one simple layer of a deeper color, brighter color or shimmer you could achieve just that. You took your day look into an evening look with one simple brush of LipSense color – and you won’t leave any traces of lipstick on him either.
